The Tree Town Spitfire players aren't likely to forget the efforts of Jennifer Plummer anytime soon.
The West Michigan Mayhem linebacker made nine tackles to spearhead a dominating 50-0 triumph over Ann Arbor's Spitfire
in a National Women's Football Association game Saturday night in Kalamazoo.
Plummer, a 5-foot-8, 165-pound strong-side linebacker in her sixth season with West Michigan, drew high praise from Mayhem
coach John Paul Jones.
``Jennifer Plummer is the defense,'' Jones said. ``She's in on just about every tackle.
``She's just a phenomenal athlete. You can put her anywhere on the field and she's going to dominate. It's a blessing to
have someone like that on your team.''
Running backs Angela Edwards and Catherine Converse each rushed for two touchdowns for West Michigan (2-0), which has outscored
its opponents 56-0.
Tree Town made its deepest charge into West Michigan territory in the fourth quarter, when the Spitfire advanced to the
20-yard line.
``I won't give up a score to anybody,'' Jones said. ``I had the reserves in there, but I put the (first-team) goal-line
defense in and we caused a turnover on the next play.''
West Michigan has a bye next Saturday, then returns to action May 5 with a game against the host Cleveland Fusion.
