Well-executed Mayhem "D" Sends Milwaukee Packing

The National Women's Football Association's Milwaukee Momentum came to Soisson/Rapacz/Clason Field Saturday night hoping defeat the West Michigan Mayhem and pull into a first-place tie in the Northern Conference's Western Division.

All they ended up with was a long bus ride back to Milwaukee.

West Michigan's Catherine Converse ran for 248 yards and three touchdowns, and the Mayhem defense beat up the Momentum's offense in a 51-0 thrashing.

``We came out and, from the get-go, executed beautifully,'' said West Michigan coach Jon Paul Jones, whose team improves to 3-1. ``In the history of this football team, we've never lost a regular-season home game, and we take pride in that.''

The Mayhem's Jennifer Plummer gained 53 yards and scored twice on seven carries from her fullback position, and tallied nine tackles on defense. Yvette Carriere wrapped up eight Momentum ballcarriers.

``(The Momentum offense) had absolutely no prayer going up the middle,'' Jones said. ``The quarterback was constantly scrambling. Their offensive line had nothing for us. They couldn't even open up a hole.

``Last week (a 34-6 loss at Cleveland), we played Cleveland's game. This week we set the precedence from the opening kickoff and carried the momentum all the way through.''

Sam Anthony had two receptions for 19 yards and returned a fourth-quarter interception for a touchdown for West Michigan.

Milwaukee falls to 1-3 on the season.
